Thank You to the St Cloud Police Department - Crime Free Multi-Housing
Last night, I had the pleasure of attending one of the St Cloud Police Department's Crime Free Rental Housing training sessions. It was put on by Joe Cordie of the St Cloud Police Dept. and Lisa Marvin with Essence Property Management Company.
These programs are designed to help both large multi-housing owners as well as small "mom and pop" rental shops as well as any of their employees. It is a great way to go over how to properly screen potential tenants to weed out the bad apples, the importance of fair housing, as well as how to get accurate background checks (employees and tenants) and notice the signs of potential drug problems in a property.
The best thing about this program is it asks landlords to do what is right with their properties and within the local communities. By spending some extra time training people on how to run their rental real estate business properly, we can weed out a lot of the little local problems at the same time. It also helps to keep up the local property values; we've all seen the dilapidated rental properties around and know what they do to the community.
